"Le vénéré Rav Avraham Mordechai Alter de Gur, zatsal, le détenteur des 'Emrei Emes' de Gur, est décédé le 6 Sivan 5783.
Le 7 Tevet 5706, naquit à Stutchin le saint génie Rav Yehuda Aryeh Leib, auteur de 'HaSfas Emes', fils de Rav Avraham Mordechai Alter et petit-fils du 'Hidushei HaRim', zatsal. Rav Avraham était extrêmement diligent, ne perdant jamais un instant, éduqué dès son enfance par son père, le détenteur des 'Sfas Emes', à être vigilant et à ne pas s'attarder dans des pensées excessives, mais seulement à se réjouir de sa part et à étudier la Torah assidûment. "Prenez l'attribut de diligence, qui conduit à la piété... Car en un instant de diligence, vous obtiendrez plus que toutes ces considérations." Depuis son enfance, Rav Avraham Mordechai avait une affection particulière pour la Terre sainte. Lorsque des émissaires arrivaient d'Eretz Israël chez son père, l'Admour, le détenteur des 'Sfas Emes', et qu'ils voulaient lui offrir un souvenir d'Eretz Israël, il leur disait : "Allez chez les fils de Rav Avraham Mordechai et donnez-lui le cadeau, car il collectionne tout objet d'Eretz Israël". Cet amour était à la base de sa relation avec la Terre d'Israël et le commandement de l'alyah vers elle.
Après le décès de son père le 5 Shevat 5705, à l'âge de seulement 58 ans, un événement qui choqua toute la hassidout de Gur, les hassidim le supplièrent de remplir la place de son père, mais Rav Avraham refusa pendant plusieurs mois. Cependant, à la fête de Chavouot, il accepta et prit sur lui le fardeau du rabbinat. Il exhortait ses hassidim à ne pas perdre leur temps, mais à augmenter leur dévotion à l'étude de la Torah. Il avait l'habitude de répéter les paroles du vieux Rabbi de Kotzk : "Je veux que vous ne péchiez pas à cause de l'interdiction, mais parce que vous n'aurez pas le temps de pécher."
Deux jours avant la fête de Chavouot 5708, il dit à ses proches : "Je veux monter plus haut." Ils pensaient qu'il voulait monter dans son appartement situé à l'étage supérieur. Cependant, il ajouta : "Ils ont besoin de moi là-haut." Et à la fête de Chavouot de l'année 5708, pendant la guerre de libération, Rav Avraham Mordechai rendit son âme pure à son Créateur.

בז' בטבת שנת תרכ"ו נולד בשטומ"צ לגאון הקדוש רבי יהודה אריה לייב בעל "השפת אמת' בן - רבי אברהם מרדכי אלטר, נכד לבעל ה"חידושי הרי"ם" זצ"ל. רבי אברהם היה זריז מאוד, לא איבד רגע לבטלה, עוד מילדותו חינכו אביו, בעל
ה'שפת אמת', להיות
זריז והדריכו שלא להרבות במחשבות יתירות, רק לשמוח בחלקו וללמוד תורה בשקידה. "ותקח
לך מדת הזריזות שמביא לידי חסידות... כי ברגע אחד בזריזות יעלה לך יותר מכל אלה החשבונות." כבר מילדותו היה רבי אברהם מרדכי מחבב במיוחד את ארץ הקודש. כשהיו מגיעים שלוחים מארץ ישראל לאביו, האדמו"ר בעל ה"שפת אמת", והיו רוצים לתת לו מזכרת מארץ ישראל. היה אומר לשליח: לך אצל בני ר' אברהם מרדכי ותן לו המתנה, כי הוא אוסף כל חפץ מארץ ישראל". חיבה זו היא שעמדה בבסיס יחסו לארץ ישראל ולמצוות העלייה אליה .
לאחר פטירת אביו בה' שבט תרס"ה, בגיל חמישים ושמונה שנים בלבד, מאורע שזעזע את כל חסידות גור, הפצירו בו החסידים למלא את מקום אביו רבי אברהם סירב במשך כמה חודשים אך בחג השבועות התרצה וקיבל עליו את עול הרבנות. היה מעורר את חסידיו שלא יבטלו זמנם, אלא ירבו בשקידת התורה. והיה רגיל לחזור על דברי הרבי הזקן מקוצק שהיה אומר: "רוצה אני שלא תחטאו לא מחמת האיסור, אלא מחמת שלא יהיה לכם פנאי לחטוא."
יומיים לפני חג השבועות תש"ח אמר למקורביו "אני רוצה לעלות למעלה". חשבו שרוצה לעלות לדירתו, שהייתה בקומה העליונה. אולם הוא הוסיף: "צריכים אותי שם". ובחג השבועות שנת תש"ח ,בעת מלחמת השחרור, החזיר רבי אברהם מרדכי את נשמתו הטהורה לבוראה .
זכותו תהא מגן וצינה עלינו.

This love formed the foundation of his relationship with the Land of Israel and the commandment of ascending to it.
After the passing of his father on the 5th of Shevat, 5685, at the age of only fifty-eight, a shocking event that shook the entire Gur Hasidic community, the Hasidim implored him to fill his father's position. Rabbi Avraham initially refused for several months, but on Shavuot, he acquiesced and accepted the burden of leadership. He urged his Hasidim not to waste their time but to increase their Torah study. He would often repeat the words of his revered grandfather, the Kotzker Rebbe, who used to say, "I want you not to sin, not because it is forbidden, but because you won't have time to sin."
Two days before Shavuot in 5688, he said to his close associates, "I want to ascend higher." They thought he meant to go up to his upper-floor apartment. However, he added, "They need me there." And on Shavuot in the year 5688, during the War of Liberation, Rabbi Avraham Mordechai returned his pure soul to its Creator.
