๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ซ 27 Sivan Rabbi Meir ben Yitzhak Ashkenazi

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Rabbi Meir, son of Yitzhak Ashkenazi of blessed memory, Av Beit Din of Eisenstadt, passed away on the 27th of Sivan, 5704 (ืชืง"ื“). He was a disciple of the "Magen Avraham." Initially, he served as a rabbi in Ashkenaz, but when he did not find a suitable place to settle and serve as a rabbi, he traveled and searched for a proper rabbinical position. During that time, he resided in the well-known town of Rabbi Shimson Wertheimer, who held an important position there. Rabbi Meir made efforts to convince the king to appoint him as the Av Beit Din in Eisenstadt, and there he served as a rabbi for 26 years.

In the first part of his book's introduction, he ponders whether it is proper for a person to write and publish a book anonymously, without revealing the author's identity. Alternatively, he considers the dilemma of the author's obligation to mention his name in the work he composed. This is because there is a saying in several places: "Every Torah scholar who has a rumor circulating about him, his lips move in the grave."

He responded: The fact that there are rumors circulating does not obligate the one who hears the rumor to mention the name of the person who said it, as even if the rumor is spread anonymously or under different names, the true author is known to the heavenly court. However, it was customary to mention the author's name to emphasize that when a rumor is said in the name of a great person, the listener will pay attention, accept it, give it due consideration, and ponder upon it. This is why the lips move in the grave.

He passed away on the 27th of Sivan, 5722 (ืชืจืœ"ื‘). May his merit protect and shelter us.

๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ซ Le rabbin Meir, fils d'Yitzhak Ashkenazi de mรฉmoire bรฉnie, Av Beit Din d'Eisenstadt, dรฉcรฉda le 27 Sivan 5704 (ืชืง"ื“).

Il dรฉcรฉda le 27 Sivan 5722 (ืชืจืœ"ื‘).
