B'shem Kol Yisrael - בשם כל ישראל

*Rosh Chodesh Elul – ‪Friday Night‬, Shabbat and Sunday all day*

This coming shabbat, a special light comes down into the world. It only comes down approximately every 5 years.

This Shabbat is Rosh Chodesh Elul and we are reading Parashat Re’eh.

The parasha starts off “Re’eh anochi noten lifnechem hayom bracha”

רְאֵ֗ה אָֽנֹכִ֛י נֹתֵ֥ן לִפְנֵיכֶ֖ם הַיּ֑וֹם בְּרָכָ֖ה

“Behold, I set before you today a blessing” Hashem is giving us a special blessing on this special Shabbat Rosh Hodesh Elul. It is a time of Eit Ratson for all our needs and we are given the opportunity to acquire blessings and answers to all our prayers made over Shabbat.

The holy Rav from Lublin states that Shabbat Rosh Chodesh Elul, Parashat Re’eh is the source and the root of all personal and global salvations in all aspects of life. All the needs in the world can be acquired on this Shabbat.

Whenever Rosh Chodesh Elul would fall on Shabbat Parashat Re’eh, Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Vitebsk zt’l, the Ba’al Hatania’s Rebbe, would gather his students and emphasize the greatness of this Shabbat. He explained that this unique and rare opportunity was a segula for good news and big yeshuot beyond natural means.

Rosh Hodesh Elul is holy in itself because it was the day Moshe Rabenu went up to Har Sinai after the sin of the Golden Calf and prayed for 40 days until You Kippour when Hashem forgave (Salachti Kidvarecha). This day is known to be a day filled with Hashem’s mercy for his children.

Rosh Chodesh Ellul is 2 days long. These 48 hours are auspicious and through them we can be blessed with very big Yeshuot. We can also have all of our prayers answered. It is a time during which we can acquire mercy from the Heavens for all our needs without exception (health, zivug, shalom bayit, parnassa…). The gates of Shamayim are wide open ready to welcome our prayers.

The Arizal explains that on Rosh Chodesh Elul, in Shamayim Hashem’s 13 attributes are revealed and therefore every person has the possibility to tap into Hashem’s mercy and get all his/her prayers answered. Even those for which we do not have merits. It is important to use the days of Rosh Chodesh to pray. Tsadikim have shared some simple segulot that should be preformed over Rosh Chodesh. These segulot have the possibility to bring light to the month of Elul as well as to the entire year to come.  Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur as well as the year to come are dependent on the month of Elul, but even more so on Rosh Chodesh Elul. Generally, Rosh Chodesh is the head of the month and is the driver of the month to come. Just like the head leads the rest of our bodies, Rosh Chodesh leads and influences the month. It has the power to introduce the abundance of blessings for the entire month.

The Chidushei Ha’Ari states that Rosh Chodesh Elul is a precious gift from Hashem, may He be blessed. And the month of Elul brings down abundance of blessings for the year to come.

Elul is the chosen month of the year for all prayers to be received by Hashem. This month, the gates of mercy and forgiveness are wide opened and Yeshuot can come upon each and everyone of us.

The Ba’al HaTanya zt’l writes that ‘The king is in the fields’ – He is close to us during the month of Elul. We are given the opportunity to have private time with the King and to approach him. Hashem receives us all with joy. It is therefore important that we take advantage and increase in prayers on Rosh Chodesh Elul (as well as on all Rashe Chodashim) and throughout the month of Elul. Increase your requests from Hashem and do more good deeds, which in turn will increase your merits for a happy and sweet New Year B’H.

Sharing the following segulot will also bring one merits. By passing on the information, you are giving many the opportunity to benefit from closeness with Hashem and a chance to pray for all  their needs and wants. You may even be helping someone to  acquire an abundance of blessings from the holiness of the month of Elul.

Please share this information as much as possible. It is important that everyone know about these segulot so many can benefit from the power of Rosh Chodesh Elul. We must not keep it to ourselves.

*Segulot Rosh Chodesh Elul*

1.     Before Shabbat, light a candle in honour of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai zatsal and give some coins to tsedaka (charity).

2.       There is a very powerful segula to say Tehillim Perek 27 twice daily from Rosh Chodesh Elul all the way through Simcha Torah, for 52 days. The siddur of the holy Arizal States that one who succeeds in saying Perek 27 twice daily for all 52 days has the power to transform and sweeten even the harshest decree. It is preferable to say the Tehilim in the morning and during the day, but in extreme cases it can also be said at night.

3. It is a big segula for both men and women to say the Tikkun HaKlali – the 10 prescribed chapters of Tehillim by Rabbi Nachman of Breslev daily from Rosh Chodesh Elul until Yom Kippur included.  Chapters are 16, 32, 41, 42, 59, 77, 90, 105, 137 and 150. The purpose of this segula is to purify the soul and to bring upon ourselves an abundance of parnassa and blessings.

4. It is a segula for success to read the chapter corresponding to the letters of your name and your mother's name from  chapter 119 in Tehillim (The chapter goes in order of the Hebrew Alphabet and each letter has 8 verses that begin with that letter). For example

‎דוד בן שרה read the verses corresponding to the letter daled, vav, daled… for all the letters.

Then read the verses corresponding to the letters of the words   ר ח מ י  ש מ י ם. (Heaven’s mercy)

5. The most powerful and important segula is to know that Hashem is very close and by our sides and waiting to hear from us. It is essential that we pour our hearts out to Hashem and pray to Him for all our material and spiritual need. The Gates of mercy are wide opened. Ask away and don’t skimp out on your prayers. Pray for all your needs, be it a marriage partner, children/good children, Shalom Bayit (peace in your home/couple), health, wealth, success, EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. There is no limit to how much you can ask. As stated by the holy Rabbi of Slonim zt’l states, it is a good month for prayer. Rav Avitan days to pray throughout Rosh Chodesh (Saturday and Sunday) but particularly on Shabbat afternoon. One should praise Hashem and thank him for everything and because it is Shabbat, it is important to include am Israel in your prayers.

6. A segula for protection and to be wealthy is to have a special meal for melave malka on Saturday night after Shabbat with bread (wash and do hamotsi) followed by Birkat Hamzaon (with Yaalei Veyavo). Also, one should have in mind that hashem should bless hun/her with an abundance of blessings in Parnassa (sustenance).  Mekoubalim teach that this meal brings shmira (protection) and a lot of blessings upon anyone who makes it a point to have the meal. (not mentioned here, but Rav Avitan previously stated in the name of Rabbi Nachman of Breslev that a woman who makes a Rosh Chodesh meal is promised to have children who will be Tsadikim)

7. The Ba’al Shem Tov brings down a great segula that is bound to bless the new year for a sweet and good year. Every day starting on the second day of Rosh Chodesh Elul (Sunday), one should say three chapters of Tehillim starting at the beginning of the book (Chapter 1) and on Yom Kippur, one should say the last 36 chapters left. 9 before Kol Nidrei, 9 the night of Yom Kippur, 9 during the day and the last 9 after Neila. The entire book of Tehillim will have been completed at that point. (Elul 1, read chapter 1, 2, 3. Elul 2, read chapters 4, 5, 6 and so on. ‪On Tuesday, October 4, 2022 during the day, before the fast begins, read chapters 112, 113, 114 and then before Kol Nidrei read chapters 115-123. ‪Tuesday night‬, chapters 124-132, Wednesday during the day 133-141 and after Neila read chapters 142-150. We will send out a schedule you can follow after Shabbat B’H

Wishing everyone a Shabbat shalom and Rosh Chodesh tov, a blessed new year and Chatima Tova B’H!

May all your prayers come through B’H and may we all merit to benefit from Hashem’s closeness throughout the month of Elul!
